I am Bill Schweitzer, the Villages Jewish Chavurah South President.  I was born and raised in New York City.  Alice and I married in 1970 and moved to Plainview, NY in 1985, where we lived for 30 years.  We have 3 children and 5 grandchildren.

While in Plainview I was Co-President of Manetto Hill Jewish Center for 3 years.  A lifelong pharmacist, I still work part-time here as a pharmacy tech to keep active (we can't play golf all day).

We joined the Chavurah as soon as we moved here and met most of our friends through the Chavurah.

I was born on an Army base in Seattle Washington towards the end of World War II.  My parents moved back to New York after my father was discharged from the Army Air Corps.  I spent my childhood in Bayside Queens New York and graduated from Brooklyn Tech High School and then completed a BA at Queens College in Economics and a Masters Degree with Honors from Penn State in Economics.  After graduation I joined the New York State National Guard and served for five years.

Most of my career was spent in Telecommunications as a Marketing Director within the Bell System (New York Telephone, Western Electric, and AT&T).  I developed marketing plans for new technologies and repositioning existing products and services.  After leaving the Bell System I worked as a consultant in the Telecommunications field for several years.  I then became a New York City Special Education High School teacher in the Bronx teaching Math and History.  While teaching I earned a second Masters Degree in Education at City College of New York.   I retired from teaching after 14 years.

I have been married to the same wonderful women for over 54 years and have two adult children, two incredible grandchildren and two grand dogs.  I enjoy attending classic car events and have owned my current Porsche for over 16 years.   I participate in many of the discussion and meditation groups within the villages and enjoy playing Shuffleboard.  I am an avid non-fiction reader, usually about historical events and people.

I was born in Chelsea, MA. When I was in the second grade we moved to an area in Boston known as Mattapan. I lived in a three decker house with my parents and two older sisters, and graduated from the Jeremiah E. Burke High School for girls. I went on to Boston Business School. I met my husband Stan in 1966 and married in 1968. We lived and raised our kids in Sharon, MA for 40 years before moving to the villages in 2015.

My last job before retiring was secretary to the principal at a large K-5 Sharon elementary school. We have two children, Michael and Rebecca, and 11 grandchildren. The joy we experience through our children and grandchildren is unmeasurable. I have always been active in numerous groups over the years which include Temple programming, Sisterhood events, social action and Chabad women’s events. I’m happy to be involved with Chavurah South as co-leader of events with my friend Dale Kanin.

Dale Kanin

Monthly Activities Coordinator

I was born & raised in Brooklyn, NY. I grew up with my parents & sister in the Bensonhurst & Gravesend neighborhoods. While there, I attended Lafayette High School. I then met my future husband and received an Early Childhood Education degree at Brooklyn College.

Bruce & I married and moved to suburban Virginia outside of D.C. for three years. After that we moved back up to the New York area, on Long Island. Before long, our son Jason and then daughter Stacey came along. We got to spend a lot of time traveling, living in London for several months; Tokyo for a month; and take several vacations both in the U.S. and Europe.

When the kids were older, I began working for the Long Island Bellmore-Merrick School district in the accounting department. I retired just as Bruce & I were moving to The Villages. I was always known for putting parties together at the Kanin household on Long Island, and that hasn’t changed in The Villages. That experience led the way to me becoming co-leader of events at the Chavurah South.
